It all began
with K9 Wendy

In November of 2020, Wendy the deaf pitbull was brought home with the intentions of being a pet. Early on, Wendy made it very clear that she was not suited for the couch potato life. She began her training as a Search And Rescue K9. Today, K9 Wendy has three national certifications as a Human Remains Detection canine, and remains the inspiration behind our organization.

We believe that some dogs just need more.

Just like Wendy, there are countless dogs in shelters and rescues that aren't meant to be house pets. Often times, these dogs struggle to find homes that can fulfill them. Sitting in shelter environments and being in under stimulating foster homes often leads these more driven dogs to problematic behaviors, which only makes them less adoptable.

After being involved with both rescues and working K9s, our founder, Sarah Dykshorn, decided to start Snout Scouts.

With Wendy as our inspiration, we decided that dogs who've been labeled as "too much" deserve to thrive.

Just like with K9 Wendy, we take a holistic approach to training. We employ Pet MatRX supplements to support joints and gut health, AnimaSol Red Light Therapy to aid in recovery, and Canimetrics exercises from PennVet Working Dog Center to warm up and cool down from exercise. Snout Scouts work on building stamina, coordination, and muscle to ensure a long and healthy working career.

Everything we do ties back to our values. We are dog-driven, because we know that as long as we follow their lead and make sure they are fulfilled, we can produce dynamic and effective canine assets for our community.

We value wellness

As we mentioned above, we train the whole dog, from the inside out. We are aware of the fact that many of our dogs have unknown genetic qualities. We want longevity out of our dogs, because they deserve long and healthy working careers.

Every step of our process is calculated to the fullest. Our dogs are efficient and precise because we take the time to ensure that they are capable of entering new situations, with new handlers, and perform regardless of pressure.

we value precision

By placing these "too much" dogs in working roles, we are keeping them out of situations that could turn them sour. We want to keep our community safe, both from the right dog in the wrong situation, and from potential threats that detection K9s can aid in deterring.

we value community

Above all, we value second chances. Our dogs show us every day that their past does not define them. Whether they were strays, dumped, rehomed, or forgotten, their future is bright.
